The Philippines is suffering and recovering from the worst storm to hit the northern Philippines in nearly 40 years. Although we hear very little about it in the news today, the crisis is very real and urgent.
The storms have killed more than 240 and have left thousands homeless. But there is hope.
Even though you’re on the other side of the globe, you can play an important part in ongoing recovery and relief efforts.
FAN has already taken the lead with a donation from its board members. Now we invite you to join us.
We’ve identified three established organizations already involved in relief efforts. Even if you can only donate a few dollars, every donation is needed and appreciated.
Adobofest was a true show of spirit, community and fun on a beautiful day.
On Sunday, September 13th, on the Northwest Side of Chicago at LaBagh Woods, over 500 attendees experienced our 2nd annual Adobofest. All of this could not have been possible without the incredible contributions of all of our volunteers, contestants and event / charity partner Gawad Kalinga!
Here are 2 links to video and photos courtesy of Mike Maravilla of Unscene Media. Enjoy!
Thanks for the Great job Mike!!

Does your mouth water just thinking of adobo? Do you like it crispy? Maybe a bit more vinegary than your Lola’s but with just the right amount of soy sauce? Is pork better than chicken, or just “different”?
Join us on Sunday, Sep. 13, to celebrate the quintessential Pinoy comfort food at…
AdoboFest 2009
Sunday, September 13th
11-4 PM
La Bagh Woods (Foster & Cicero), Chicago
There’ll be plenty of entertain, fun and games for Pinoys of all ages. This is a potluck picnic, so bring your lunch. But also bring your appetite and help us to pick the best Adobo dishes of 2009.

Join FAN for a Sunday, August 30, matinee theater performance by Pintig, Chicago’s longest-running Filipino performing arts group.
CIRCA-Pintig brings back to the stage Lani T. Montreal’s SISTER OUTLAW, a comedy about love, friendship and immigration in its many splendored and gendered ways.
The show starts at 3:00 PM, but we’ll be meeting at the theater around 2:30.
FAN Outing – Sunday, August 30, 2009
Pintig/CIRCA’s “Sister Outlaw”
Dream Theatre
556 w 18th St. (18th & Clinton)
Chicago, IL
FAN is getting 50% off the ticket price if we have a group of at least 10–which I’m confident we will. After the show, we’ll probably get a bite to eat or bubble tea at Joy Yee’s or Chinatown.
So please come out next Sunday afternoon, August 30, and join us for a wonderful performance and a great time!
This is FAN’s first event where the mommies and daddies don’t need a baby sitter to hang out!
And this place even has Wi-Fi, if you need to do some work!
Although you cannot bring in food from the outside (this is a for-profit-business), their food offerings are reasonable, but this place is kid heaven!!
….Huge Inflatable Bouncers, slides and obstacle courses, a green turf- covered floor and the biggest, padded and netted, Monkeybar set I have ever seen! The do have a small inflatable for those 2 and under!
The price is right, and we can all sit together, catch up and connect with new FAN types.
We will try our best to “preserve” some tables and chairs for our hang-out area, so try to get there early.
And a big benefit, the little ones will have a great work out, get away from videogames and TV, and sleep like angels!
Oh yeah, and invite your friends!!
You can email this URL to friends that are not on facebook….who isn’t on facebook? Just kidding…
