Please meet Terry Samala de Guzman

Terry currently holds the position of Chief Operating Officer at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. In her current role, Terry has responsibilities cover Finance, HR, Facilities & Operations, Marketing & Communications, Technology, and Auxiliary Businesses.   She is also the project lead for the museum’s forthcoming major space renovation; and its Access, Inclusion and Equity initiative.. Prior to joining the MCA, she held the position of Senior Associate Dean for Finance and Administration at the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business.  Her career spans roles in corporate including Finance Manager at American Express; Treasurer/Principal at Kwasha Lipton; and Division CFO at  Bellcore; followed by a successful transition to leadership in education as COO at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School, where she also led the financing and construction of its campus expansion in New York. Terry concurrently maintains her coaching practice through the The Next Step Coaching and Consulting Services, a firm she founded in 2013; and holds adjunct faculty appointments with the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, and Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management . Her teaching portfolio includes Global Leadership, Family Enterprise Management and Personal Finance.  An advocate for financial literacy, and committed to help others achieve sustainable and fulfilling careers and lives, Terry’s  community work included teaching at the Fluvanna Correction Center for Women. Terry is a CPA, holds an MBA from New York University's Stern School of Business, and is an International Coaching Federation Certified Coach.  She served as Vice-Chair of the Board of the Piedmont Virginia Community College Foundation, serves on the board of Arts Alliance Illinois,  and is a member of the  Economic Club of Chicago and the International Women’s Forum.   She and her husband, Allen, have two grown children, Alexandra and Philip.
